BJP Candidate K Surendran Faces 242 Cases Contesting Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad

Wayanad, 30th March 2024: K Surendran, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024, will challenge Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Kerala’s Wayanad constituency. Surendran, also the BJP’s state president, disclosed facing 242 criminal cases linked to his candidacy in Wayanad. Surendran, originating from Kozhikode, serves as the 11th state president of the BJP. He embarked on his political journey with the BJP’s student organization ABVP and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Calicut University.

Similarly, K S Radhakrishnan, the BJP’s candidate from the Ernakulam electoral district, confronts around 211 cases. Most of these cases, as per BJP’s state secretary George Kurian, are associated with the 2018 Sabarimala agitation and await court proceedings. Kurian emphasized the necessity of disclosing candidates’ case details.

Meanwhile, BJP’s national secretary, B L Santosh, tweeted about the challenges faced by nationalists in India. He highlighted cases against Surendran, Radhakrishnan, BJP’s Alappuzha candidate Shobha Surendran, and Vadakara candidate P K Krishnadas. Santosh stated, “Being a nationalist in some parts of India is difficult.” Kurian further detailed that 237 cases against Surendran were related to the Sabarimala agitation, with five linked to various movements in Kerala.

In 2018, the BJP staged statewide protests against the Kerala government’s decision to implement the Supreme Court’s order permitting women’s entry into the Sabarimala Temple. The temple, located atop a hill in Pathanamthitta district, became a focal point of controversy.
