Jan Suraaj Bihar Election List: 65 Candidates Announced, 34 from EBC, OBC, and Minority Communities
Patna, 13th October 2025: Political strategist Prashant Kishore’s party, Jan Suraaj, on Monday announced its second list of 65 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, further expanding its electoral outreach across the state.
The newly announced list includes 20 reserved seats and 46 general category seats, reflecting the party’s attempt to maintain social balance and inclusive representation. Among the reserved seats, there are 19 Scheduled Caste (SC) and 1 Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. The general category seats feature 34 candidates from Muslim, Extremely Backward Class (EBC), and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities, while 11 seats have been allocated to upper castes.
One of the most notable names in the list is Abhaykant Jha, a 74-year-old advocate known for representing Muslim victims in the Bhagalpur riots. Prashant Kishore introduced him at a press conference and welcomed him to the party, calling his inclusion symbolic of Jan Suraaj’s “commitment to justice and social harmony.”
Addressing the media, Prashant Kishore (PK) said, “We are preparing a list of 243 candidates by selecting good people from every section of society. We promised that those who have the strength will be given the right share. When the complete list is announced, there will hardly be any community left without representation.”
Kishore further added that the party has ensured one-third participation from the Extremely Backward Community (EBC). “We have decided that 70 people from the extremely backward community will contest the elections. If they lack the resources, the party will provide support and training,” he said.
With the second list, Jan Suraaj has now declared candidates for 116 seats, including 25 reserved constituencies. Of the 91 remaining general seats, 31 have been allotted to EBC candidates, reflecting the party’s focus on social empowerment and ground-level representation.
First List Featured Diverse Candidates
Earlier, on October 9, Jan Suraaj had released its first list of 51 candidates, which included a mix of professionals and grassroots leaders — from doctors to transgender activists. The list also featured prominent names such as Jagriti Thakur, granddaughter of former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, nominated from Morwa (Samastipur); Lata Singh, daughter of former Union Minister RCP Singh, from Asthawan; and Preeti Kinnar from Gopalganj.
The first list also included mathematician KC Sinha from Kumhrar (Patna) and Patna High Court lawyer YV Giri from Manjhi (Saran).
According to party figures, the first list comprised 17 candidates from the EBC category, 7 from SC/ST, 11 from OBC, 6 from minority communities, and 7 from the general category.
Jan Suraaj to Announce More Lists Soon
Uday Singh, the party’s national president, said that Jan Suraaj will continue releasing candidate lists periodically. Kishore has already kickstarted his election campaign from Raghopur on October 11, as part of his statewide outreach drive.
