Central Government Employees Await 3% DA Hike, Salary Increase and Pension Benefits Explained
New Delhi, 21st October 2026: Central government employees and pensioners are awaiting a decision on the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) revision, with expectations of a possible 3% increase at the Union Cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
The proposed revision, effective from 1st July 2026, has not yet been officially announced. Employees are currently receiving DA at 60% of their basic pay, following the previous revision announced in April this year. If the anticipated 3-percentage-point increase is approved, the rate would rise to 63%.
The Cabinet meeting has drawn attention after the expected announcement did not materialise at the previous meeting on 14th October. Employee associations have also urged the government to expedite the decision, citing the delay in revising the allowance for the second half of 2026.
The Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers held lunch-hour protests at various workplaces on 16th October, demanding an early announcement of DA, DR and bonus payments. Employee representatives have expressed hope that the government will address the pending revision, although the final decision rests with the Centre.
How much could salaries increase?
The financial impact of the proposed hike would depend on an employee’s basic pay. For an employee drawing a basic salary of ₹44,900 per month, the current DA at 60% amounts to ₹26,940.
If the rate increases to 63%, the DA component would rise to ₹28,287 per month. This would translate into an additional ₹1,347 monthly, or ₹16,164 over 12 months, before accounting for any applicable deductions or changes in other salary components.
The figures are estimates based on a possible 3-percentage-point increase and should not be treated as confirmed salary revisions until the government issues an official order.
What about pensioners?
Central government pensioners are also awaiting the corresponding increase in Dearness Relief. If the government approves a similar revision, their monthly pension benefits would increase according to their basic pension and the final rate announced.
DA and DR are revised periodically to help government employees and pensioners cope with changes in the cost of living. The rates are determined using inflation-linked calculations.
For now, employees and pensioners will have to wait for the government’s official announcement to confirm whether the proposed increase will be approved and when the revised payments will be released.
