RPF Bhusaval Cracks Rs 1.82 Crore Fake Robbery Case Within 72 Hours; Four Arrested

Bhusaval, 06 October 2025: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Bhusaval Division, Central Railway, has exposed a fabricated high-value robbery case involving gold ornaments worth ₹1.82 crore, initially reported as a major theft aboard the Jabalpur-CSMT Garib Rath Express. The entire property was recovered within 72 hours, and four individuals, including the complainant, were arrested.

The incident was first reported on September 30, 2025, when passenger Sagar Parekh lodged a complaint at the Government Railway Police (GRP) Station, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai. Parekh alleged that 52 gold bangles and 35 gold rings, collectively weighing about 1.5 kilograms and valued at ₹1.82 crore, were stolen during his journey on Train No. 12187 Jabalpur–CSMT Garib Rath Express. The case was registered under Crime No. 082/25, Sections 3(5) and 309(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Upon verification, it was found that the incident location fell under the jurisdiction of the GRP Post Khandwa. The case was subsequently transferred and re-registered on October 3, 2025, as Crime No. 219/2025 by GRP Khandwa, which then sought assistance from the RPF Bhusaval Division.

A joint investigation team comprising officers from RPF Post Khandwa, the Crime Intelligence Branch, and RPF Bhusaval was formed under the supervision of senior divisional officers. Using CCTV footage analysis, digital tracking, mobile call data records (CDRs), and route mapping, the team conducted a detailed technical investigation.

The analysis revealed that the alleged robbery was fabricated by the complainant himself, in collaboration with his associates. During questioning, the accused admitted to staging the incident and even injuring themselves to make the claim appear genuine. They disclosed that the gold had been handed over to an accomplice named Praveen at Kalyan railway station.

Acting on the information, investigators summoned Praveen to the RPF Post Khandwa. On October 4, he arrived with the entire set of gold ornaments 52 bangles and 35 rings, weighing 1.6 kilograms, which were valued at ₹1.82 crore and subsequently seized.

The four arrested individuals are:

1. Sagar Parekh (40) – resident of Nashik, Maharashtra, and partner at R.B. Jewellers & Gold Ltd. LLP, Zaveri Bazaar, Mumbai;

2. Sanjay Kumar (27) – resident of Pali district, Rajasthan, currently residing in Mumbai;

3. Praveen Kumar (35) – resident of Sirohi district, Rajasthan, currently residing in Diva East, Thane;

4. Rakesh Jain (53) – resident of Malabar Hills, Mumbai.

All four have been booked under Crime No. 219/2025, Sections 3(5) and 309(6) of the BNS. The investigation is being led by Inspector Prakash Chandra Sen of RPF Bhusaval Division.

Authorities confirmed that the coordinated efforts between RPF Bhusaval, RPF Khandwa, and GRP teams led to the swift detection of the fabricated robbery and full recovery of the stolen property.
