Indian Railways Spends Rs 1.42 Lakh Crore, Achieves Record 56.5% CAPEX Utilisation Till September 2025

New Delhi, 8th October 2025: Indian Railways has achieved a record 56.5% capital expenditure (CAPEX) utilisation, spending ₹1,42,487 crore till September 2025 in the ongoing financial year 2025–26, marking its highest-ever mid-year utilisation.

The total budgetary grant for FY 2025–26 stands at ₹2,52,200 crore, of which over half has already been utilised.

Break-up of 56.5% Utilisation by Key Sectors

Safety Works:
Includes KAVACH-related projects, track renewals, road over bridges, bridges, and level crossings.

Budget: ₹39,456 crore

Utilisation: ₹22,286 crore (56%)

Capacity Augmentation:
Covers new lines, doubling, gauge conversion, electrification, and metropolitan transport.

Budget: ₹1,09,986 crore

Utilisation: ₹49,001 crore (45%)

Customer Amenities:

Budget: ₹12,004 crore

Utilisation: ₹5,863 crore (49%)

Rolling Stock:

Budget: ₹56,693 crore

Utilisation: ₹25,948 crore (46%)

The data highlights consistent progress across infrastructure, safety, and rolling stock enhancement works under the Railway’s capital investment plan for FY 2025–26.
