Railway News: Solapur Division Records 86% Growth in Freight Loading, Earnings Rise 70% in September 2025
Solapur, 08 October 2025: The Solapur Division of Central Railway has reported significant improvement in freight performance for September 2025, registering an 86.21% increase in loading volume and a 70.89% rise in freight earnings compared to the same period last year.
The division achieved 5.40 lakh metric tonnes of freight loading during September 2025, up from 2.90 lakh metric tonnes in September 2024. Correspondingly, freight earnings increased to ₹35.99 crore, reflecting stronger operational output and efficient cargo handling.
The Solapur Division handles freight operations through goods sheds at Arag, Bale, Bhigvan, Dharashiv, Kurduvadi, Latur, Pandharpur, Solapur, Taj Sultanpur, Tilati, and Wadi. Its sidings include ACC Cement (Wadi), Ultratech Cement (Hotgi), Chettinad Cement (Tilati), Zuari Cement (Tilati), NTPC (Hotgi), and IOCL petroleum terminals at Hirenanduru and Pakni. The Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at BPCL Hirenanduru also contributes to the freight movement network.
Commodity-wise performance (September 2025):
Cement: 2.84 lakh metric tonnes loaded across 96 rakes, up by 27.53%, earning ₹16.81 crore (+42.06%).
Clinker: 1.19 lakh metric tonnes across 30 rakes, doubling both weight and earnings to ₹6.60 crore.
Petroleum, Oil & Lubricants: Newly added traffic with 31 rakes, earning ₹4.28 crore.
Jaggery: Registered growth of 51.42% in weight and 50.69% in earnings.
Ballast: Recorded 19.28% higher earnings.
Cumulative performance (April–September 2025):
During the first half of FY 2025–26, the division loaded 2.91 million tonnes (MT) of goods, marking a 15.94% increase over 2.51 MT in the same period last year. Freight earnings stood at ₹200.55 crore, supported by handling 1,010 rakes compared to 892 during April–September 2024 an improvement of 13.23%.
The division continues to maintain steady growth through expanded freight operations and increased participation from industries across Solapur, Kalaburagi, Latur, Dharashiv, Sangli, and Pune districts.
