Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Submits Documents To Reinstate Rahul Gandhi’s Membership In Lok Sabha

New Delhi, 5th August 2023: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated that he has submitted all the necessary documents regarding the revocation of Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha to the Speaker. He urged Speaker Om Birla to promptly reinstate Rahul Gandhi’s membership, just as he was swiftly disqualified following a defamation case related to remarks about the Modi surname.

Chowdhury revealed that he had attempted to contact the Speaker both last night and this morning but was unable to reach the Secretary General’s office due to a holiday. Consequently, he sent the documents directly to the Speaker’s office in hopes of a quick resolution before the Lok Sabha session on Monday.

Jairam Ramesh, the Congress general secretary, expressed frustration on Twitter, questioning the delay in restoring Rahul Gandhi’s position as a Member of Parliament, especially since the Supreme Court had already stayed his conviction.

Chowdhury recounted that the Speaker instructed him to meet the Secretary-General and hand over the documents in person. However, due to the office closure, they were compelled to send the documents via post. Despite submitting the documents, there was no official receipt issued by the Lok Sabha secretariat.

Chowdhury informed the House about the plea for revoking Gandhi’s disqualification at 2:05 PM on Friday and personally briefed the Speaker at his residence about the court’s decision in Gandhi’s favour. He asserted that their intention was not to accuse anyone, as they hold the Speaker in high regard. They were simply seeking the restoration of their rights, as they were taken away based on court orders, and now, with the court’s relief, they expect their rights to be reinstated promptly.

The Congress leader emphasized their impatience for Rahul Gandhi to receive justice, now that the Supreme Court has granted relief. They demand that his rights should be protected and reinstated without further delay, and they are prepared to seek legal advice if necessary.
