BJP Targets 35 Lok Sabha Seats in West Bengal, Amit Shah Asserts Implementation of CAA

Kolkata, 27th December 2023: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with a specific focus on West Bengal, aiming to secure 35 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Union Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda arrived in Kolkata on Monday night, conducting a crucial meeting with the core committee of Bengal BJP on Tuesday.

During his visit, Amit Shah addressed the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of misleading the public on the matter. Shah asserted that the implementation of CAA is inevitable as it is the law of the country, dismissing any attempts to hinder it.

At a BJP event in Bengal, Amit Shah outlined the party’s goals for the upcoming assembly elections, stating, “We have to work to form the BJP government in West Bengal after the next assembly elections. A BJP government in Bengal means an end to infiltration, cow smuggling, and granting citizenship to religiously persecuted people through CAA.”

Taking a direct jab at Mamata Banerjee, Shah remarked, “Sometimes, she tries to mislead people, refugees, about whether CAA will be implemented in the country or not. I want to say clearly that CAA is the law, and no one can stop its implementation. This is our party’s commitment.”

The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been vocal in its opposition to the CAA, which was passed by Parliament in 2019. The implementation of CAA was a key election promise for the BJP in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

The Citizenship Amendment Act aims to provide Indian citizenship to persecuted minorities, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, who migrated to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014.
