Alipurduar–Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express to Link North Bengal Border Region with Western Coast
Mumbai, 16 January 2026: A new weekly Alipurduar–Mumbai (Panvel) Amrit Bharat Express will provide a direct rail connection between eastern India and the western coast, linking North Bengal’s border region with the Mumbai metropolitan area.
The train will originate from Alipurduar in West Bengal, located close to the India–Bhutan international border. The service is scheduled to depart from Alipurduar at 4:45 am on Thursdays and arrive at Panvel at 5:30 pm on Saturdays. On the return run, the Panvel–Alipurduar Amrit Bharat Express will leave Panvel at 11:50 am on Mondays and reach Alipurduar at 1:50 pm on Wednesdays.
The route will cover multiple districts across five states. In West Bengal, the train will serve Alipurduar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Uttar Dinajpur. In Bihar, it will pass through Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Saran, Patna, Bhojpur and Buxar. The service will also cover Chandauli, Mirzapur, Prayagraj and Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, Satna, Katni, Jabalpur and Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh, and Jalgaon, Nashik, Thane and Raigad in Maharashtra.
Along its route, the train will provide rail access to several prominent tourist and pilgrimage destinations. These include Darjeeling, known for its tea gardens and Himalayan landscape; the Vikramshila Mahavihara, an ancient centre of Buddhist learning; the Mahabodhi Temple in the Bihar region; Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam; Chitrakoot Dham, associated with the Ramayana; and the Trimbakeshwar Temple in Maharashtra, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
The introduction of the Alipurduar–Mumbai (Panvel) Amrit Bharat Express adds a new long-distance rail link connecting eastern border districts with central and western India through a single weekly service.
