Jake Sullivan Dismisses Claims of US Role in Bangladesh Protests, Calls Them ‘Preposterous’

Washington, 11th January 2025: US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has dismissed claims about the US orchestrating protests and regime changes in Bangladesh, calling the allegations “preposterous.” He also stated that senior Indian officials do not share this belief. Sullivan addressed recent tensions, including allegations involving an Indian official in an assassination plot against a US citizen, calling it a “bump” in US-India relations. He emphasized that both nations are working to ensure full accountability and transparency in the investigation, with the process continuing beyond the Biden administration’s tenure.

Speaking from the White House, Sullivan highlighted the US-India relationship as a key achievement of the Biden administration, noting a significant improvement in trust and strategic collaboration. He also expressed confidence that the defence industrial ties between the two nations align with American interests, despite concerns over protectionist policies under a potential Trump administration.

Sullivan also addressed the controversy surrounding the investigation into the Gurpatwant Singh Pannun assassination plot. He reassured that the US is working closely with India to ensure accountability, without publicly disclosing further details. Additionally, he stressed the complementary nature of “Made in America” and “Make in India” initiatives, emphasizing mutual benefits from increased production in both countries.

Reflecting on the past four years, Sullivan expressed satisfaction with the deepened ties and strategic investments between the US and India, marking a significant milestone for future relations.
