Delhi Government Closes 13 Cases Linked to NEET-UG Protests

New Delhi, 30th July 2026: The Delhi government has decided not to take further adverse legal action against people involved in protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination.

According to a press release issued by the Delhi Home Department, Delhi Police had registered 13 cases in connection with the protests as of 6 p.m. on July 29.

The government said the decision was taken after carefully considering the circumstances and the Supreme Court’s July 28 order in Shailendra Mani Tripathi v. Union of India and Others.

Under the decision, no police authority in the National Capital Territory of Delhi will take adverse legal action against those involved in the protests. However, this protection will not apply to people with criminal antecedents, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order.

The government has also directed the authorities to expeditiously review any arrests or detentions already made in connection with the cases and begin the process of releasing those arrested.

The Delhi government said it did not propose to initiate any further adverse action against the protesters. The cases will be treated as closed, with no future proceedings arising from them.

The decision was issued with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. The press release was signed by Principal Secretary (Home) Santosh D. Vaidya.
