70% of Children in Ukraine Deprived of Basic Goods and Services Amid Ongoing Crisis: UNICEF

Rome, 11th July 2025: Nearly 70 percent of children in Ukraine are currently without access to essential goods and services, as material deprivation sharply rises due to the ongoing conflict and socioeconomic challenges, according to data released by UNICEF.

The crisis has significantly impacted critical public infrastructure. Damaged schools and healthcare facilities, compounded by growing poverty, are major contributors to the worsening situation for children across the country.

Ukraine is also experiencing a steep demographic shift, with the birthrate plummeting by 35 percent. Millions of women and children have fled the country since the escalation of hostilities, further straining the nation’s social systems.

UNICEF stressed the urgent need for investment in key services and support systems to address the needs of vulnerable children. These include children living near active conflict zones, children with disabilities, those in institutional and foster care, and internally displaced families.

“Continuous access to quality and inclusive social services, education, and health care for all children and their families is essential,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

The organization emphasized the importance of focusing on early childhood development, access to education, healthcare, and skill-building for youth as part of Ukraine’s recovery efforts.

UNICEF has called for immediate action to ensure the protection and well-being of children and to safeguard the future of the country.
