Yogi Adityanath Urges Devotees to Avoid Sangam Nose Following Stampede, Rescue Operations Ongoing

Lucknow, 29th January 2025: In the aftermath of a stampede at the Triveni Sangam during Mauni Amavasya, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged devotees in Prayagraj to avoid the Sangam Nose and perform their rituals at other nearby ghats. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday as a large crowd gathered at the site for the holy dip.

CM Yogi assured devotees that multiple other ghats have been designated for bathing and are safe for those participating in the Mauni Amavasya celebrations. Authorities are currently focused on rescue operations at the Sangam Nose.

On social media, CM Yogi also called on people to follow official instructions, cooperate with the administration, and refrain from spreading rumours, highlighting that the remaining ghats are peacefully accommodating devotees.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached out to CM Yogi twice within an hour to stay updated on the situation and has called for swift relief efforts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with the CM, offering the full support of the central government.

Rescue teams are actively working, and those injured have been taken to the central hospital within the Mela grounds for treatment. Sources close to the situation reported that at least 15 bodies have been brought to the hospital.

Following the incident, Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad President Mahant Ravindra Puri announced that the seers have decided to call off the Amrit Snan for Mauni Amavasya in light of the stampede.

The Mela administration has begun sending people back from the site, and a Rapid Action Force has been deployed to manage the crowd and assist with relief operations.
