Shinde-Fadnavis Government Arranges Diwali Gift Packages For Weaker Sections Of Society

Mumbai, 18th October 2022: Pre-Diwali goods will be distributed to the beneficiaries of the weaker sections. The goods will be brought by the suppliers from different areas, and separate bags of those goods will be put in one sack and then given to the beneficiaries. It was a first-of-its-kind experiment in the state, and the decision was taken in a short period, causing some delay. But, in the next four days, all the beneficiaries of the weaker sections of the state will get the gift of the Shinde-Fadnavis government, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ravindra Chavan said.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis decided to give semolina, maida, chana dal, and oil for Rs 100 to 1.80 crore people, who have yellow ration cards, 15 days ago. The decision was taken so that the citizens of the weaker sections of the state could celebrate Diwali sweetly and happily.

“We are in touch with the Secretary, Controller of the Regular Food Supply Department, as these items should be received by the beneficiaries before the Diwali festival. It is the Shinde-Fadnavis government that is taking such decisions in the short term and for the first time. The previous government tried to give sometimes sugar and semolina to the weaker sections. The Shinde-Fadnavis government took a big decision to give four items at once. There was a little delay in delivering the Diwali gift as neither the suppliers nor the government agencies had such experience in this work. All four wholesale items in the Diwali offer are supplied by suppliers from four different locations. There are no godowns to keep these items together in Mumbai. The provision of that stock had to be done at the right time. After all these four items are put together in bulk, they will be packed in small bags,” Minister Chavan said. He further informed that all four items will be packed in a bag and then delivered to the ration shops.

These items will not tear when kept together. They will not be adulterated. These bags are going to be filled together, taking care to keep the oil safe in the bag. Minister Chavan said that the Diwali gift bags will have pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Diwali greetings. More than 50 percent stock of Diwali gifts will reach every ration warehouse centre in the district by Thursday. From there, it will be taken by internal transport to villages, towns, and padas. Ration shopkeepers should distribute these items in a very disciplined manner. District controllers have been instructed that no beneficiary should be deprived of a Diwali gift.

”Suppliers of four items are to be brought separately, and four items are to be brought together to the warehouse from different locations. These four items are to be tied separately and then put in a bag and distributed to the beneficiaries. This is the first attempt and experience of its kind. More than 60 percent of Diwali gift stock will reach district supply centres within two days. All the beneficiaries will have Diwali gifts in their hands by Saturday,” said Ravindra Chavan, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, State of Maharashtra.
