Railways Launch Nationwide Fire Safety Audit of Railway Stations

New Delhi, 11th June 2026: Indian Railways has initiated a nationwide fire safety audit of railway stations to assess existing safety infrastructure and identify areas requiring improvement in emergency preparedness and fire protection measures.

The audit will be conducted across railway stations throughout the country and will examine key fire safety and security systems installed at station premises. The exercise aims to evaluate the readiness of railway infrastructure to respond to fire incidents and other emergencies.

According to railway authorities, the inspection will cover station buildings, electrical installations, air-conditioning and ventilation systems, emergency exits, firefighting equipment, water storage and supply arrangements, pumping systems, and sprinkler networks. The audit will also assess whether stations comply with prescribed fire safety and security standards.

Officials said that any shortcomings or deficiencies identified during the inspections will be documented and addressed through corrective measures. The improvements recommended during the audit process will be taken up for implementation based on operational requirements.

The audits will be carried out by joint inspection teams comprising officials from various railway departments. Support from specialized agencies and State Fire Departments will also be sought wherever necessary to assist in technical assessments and inspections.

The fire safety audit exercise is being undertaken as part of ongoing efforts to review and strengthen safety infrastructure across the railway network and improve preparedness for emergency situations at railway stations.
