Pune: Swiggy, Zomato, Ola-Uber Workers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Announce Mass Strike for Employee Rights

Pune, 20th October 2023: In a bid to address the longstanding issues faced by workers in the gig economy, employees of leading mobile app-based service providers, including Swiggy, Zomato, and Ola-Uber, are gearing up for a mass strike on October 25 in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Dr Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, addressing a press conference, conveyed the collective determination to secure justice and improved working conditions for these employees.

The concerns of employees working for companies providing services through mobile apps have been a growing issue. Neglecting these concerns has led to mounting discontent among workers who play an integral role in the success of such platforms. As a response to these issues, Dr Kshirsagar, during his press conference, announced the planned mass strike on October 25, which is expected to draw participation from workers in the Swiggy, Zomato, Ola, and Uber sectors in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Furthermore, Dr Kshirsagar highlighted the importance of implementing the Cab Aggregator Guidelines 2020 as per the Supreme Court’s orders. This entails the determination of rates for cabs, rickshaws, and taxis in line with the Khatua Committee’s recommendations. He urged the central government to enact relevant legislation during the upcoming winter session to address these issues comprehensively.

The forthcoming mass strike on October 25 is anticipated to draw attention to these pressing issues, raising awareness about the need for improved conditions, fair compensation, and worker’s rights in the mobile app-based service industry. The participation of Swiggy, Zomato, Ola, and Uber workers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad signals a unified effort to address these concerns and bring about positive change for the gig economy’s labour force.
