Opposition Unites in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to Rally for Democracy and Constitution

Delhi, 31st March 2024: Opposition parties staged a massive show of unity today at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, coming together under the banner of the ‘Save Democracy Rally’. The rally, aimed at safeguarding the Constitution and democratic principles, witnessed the presence of key leaders from various political factions.

 

Leading the charge were Congress stalwarts Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi, along with a host of prominent figures including Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena (UBT), Akhilesh Yadav of SP, Tejashwi Yadav of RJD, Derek O’Brien of TMC, Sitaram Yechury of Left, and Sharad Pawar of NCP (Sharad Pawar).

 

Addressing the gathering, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray emphasized the need to dismantle the dominance of a single-party rule, declaring, “One party and one person government will have to go.” He condemned the BJP’s alleged efforts to manipulate elections and accused the ruling party of hypocrisy in its anti-corruption stance.

 

Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, rallied support for her husband, lauding his dedication to the country and promising transformative reforms if the AAP prevails in the Lok Sabha elections. She hailed Kejriwal as a lion and pledged to work towards creating a new India with enhanced welfare measures.

 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi cautioned against the BJP’s purported agenda to tamper with the Constitution, likening it to match-fixing in cricket. He urged the public to reject such attempts and reiterated his party’s commitment to defending democratic values.

 

In a fervent address, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav denounced the alleged misuse of investigative agencies by the BJP, citing targeted harassment of opposition leaders and their families. He vowed to resist such intimidation and fight for the rights of the people.

 

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav echoed the sentiment of unity against the BJP, predicting their defeat despite claims of crossing the 400-seat mark. He rallied the crowd, affirming that the voice of the people would prevail over authoritarianism.

 

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Modi of harboring a dictatorial ideology and highlighted alleged attempts to suppress dissent and undermine electoral integrity.

 

The ‘Save Democracy Rally’ underscored the collective resolve of opposition forces to challenge the ruling dispensation and uphold democratic norms in the face of mounting challenges. Leaders pledged to continue their fight to safeguard the country’s democratic fabric and uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution.
