Pune: Amit Thackeray, 20-25 Others Booked Over PM Modi Photo Removal at Govt Polytechnic

Pune, 31st August 2026: Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena president Amit Thackeray and around 20 to 25 others have been booked for entering the Government Polytechnic on Ganeshkhind Road without permission, removing a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from an office and creating a ruckus, police said.
The incident took place between 12:30 pm and 1 pm on Monday (August 31) at the Government Polytechnic in Pune. A complaint was filed by the institute’s principal, Dr Rajendra Kashiram Patil, 52, a resident of Kothrud.
According to officials from Chatushrungi police station, the accused entered the principal’s office without permission and removed a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They allegedly threatened the complainant and other employees and remained inside the office premises while raising slogans and creating a disturbance.
Police have registered a case against Thackeray and around 20 to 25 others based on the complaint. Further investigation is underway.
What happened at the Government Polytechnic?
According to the complaint and information provided by police, Thackeray was in Pune as part of a visit and had gone to inspect the canteen at the Government Polytechnic on Ganeshkhind Road.
During the visit, he noticed a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed in a government office alongside a photograph of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Thackeray then asked one of his associates to remove the photograph of Prime Minister Modi. The associate subsequently removed the photograph.
Following the incident, BJP workers demanded that a case be registered against Thackeray.
The complaint by the institute’s principal subsequently led to the registration of a case against Thackeray and around 20 to 25 others.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged unauthorised entry, removal of the photograph, threats and the alleged disturbance at the institute.
