Maharashtra Government Distributes Diwali Food Packets Offline

Mumbai, 24th October 2022: The Maharashtra government has decided to distribute Diwali food packets offline to the beneficiaries as the online process was getting delayed due to technical issues. The decision was taken after a meeting with Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ravindra Chavan along with the officials of the department.
Chavan said, “On Sunday, we decided to start offline distribution of Diwali food packets to ration card holders.
He added that instructions have been issued to the officials to fast-track the distribution.
As reported by The Indian Express, Chavan said, “The Diwali food packet distribution process was to be done online using point-of-sale (PoS) machines connected to the internet. However, it was noted that the online process slowed down the delivery. Therefore, instructions have been issued to start offline distribution.”
Food and Civil Supplies Department officials said, “The online process was delaying the distribution. As a result, the government has decided to start the distribution of Diwali food packs offline to eligible beneficiaries.”
Earlier this month, the government had approved the distribution of Diwali special packs to 1.62 crore ration card holders, so that people can prepare sweets at a much cheaper rate. Under this scheme, beneficiaries are entitled to highly subsidized food packs specially designed for Diwali.
An individual ration card holder is eligible for one kilogram of sugar, semolina, chana dal and one liter of edible palm oil for Rs 100. The distribution was to be completed by October 20 but the department failed to meet the target.
