Maharashtra Embraces e-Survey 2.0, Boosts Transparency and Reduces Land Disputes

Pune, 24th June 2025: In a significant step towards digitization and transparency, the Land Records Department of Maharashtra has rolled out the e-Survey Version 2.0 system for land measurement across the state. The new system has already yielded notable results, with over 3 lakh surveys conducted in the last seven months and complaint rates dropping to just 0.3%, officials report a growing sense of trust among farmers.

The e-Survey 2.0 system offers several digital features, including:
Online application and fee payment
Notice delivery via Speed Post
Uploading of photos of present landowners and surveyors
Online access to certified survey documents
GIS-based survey maps with latitude and longitude markings

Previously, farmers had to make repeated visits to land record offices to obtain certified documents. Now, all relevant data and survey maps are made available directly in the applicant’s login, eliminating human intervention and minimizing errors.

According to Dr. Suhas Divase, Commissioner of Land Records, complaint rates have significantly decreased compared to the previous manual system, which had 5–10% complaint rates. “Disputes about incorrect boundaries, absence during surveys, or unreceived notices have drastically reduced. The digital process now documents who was present at the survey and whether there was mutual consent — all with photographic proof.”

The system is also beneficial in avoiding boundary overlaps between neighboring landowners, which were common in earlier surveys. Using GIS-enabled rover devices, the department now provides precise and tamper-proof maps, greatly reducing post-survey disputes.

The e-Survey 2.0 platform is being used for land boundary confirmation, subdivision, non-agricultural land classification, court orders, commissions, and land acquisition for infrastructure projects.
