Enforcement Directorate Summons Lalu and Tejashwi Yadav in Land-for-Jobs Scam

New Delhi, 20th December 2023: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the land-for-jobs scam. The central agency has called both political figures to Delhi for questioning on December 22nd, Friday. It is noteworthy that Tejashwi Yadav has sought permission from the Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi on Wednesday to travel abroad.

Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav have all been booked as accused in the alleged land-for-jobs scam. The summons from the ED further intensifies the legal scrutiny on the Yadav family.

On October 4th, the court had granted bail to Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Rabri Devi, and others in connection with the new charge sheet filed in the land-for-job scam case.

The investigation revolves around allegations that during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as the Railway Minister in the UPA government from 2004 to 2009, candidates were allegedly appointed to the Railways without following established norms. The appointments were purportedly made without any advertisement or public notice, favoring residents of Patna who were appointed as substitutes in various zonal railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, and Jaipur.

The key accusation is that the appointed candidates subsequently sold land at highly concessional rates to certain members of the Yadav family. Despite the allegations, the Yadav family has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

As the ED intensifies its investigation, the summons to Lalu and Tejashwi Yadav mark a crucial development in the ongoing legal proceedings. The outcome of their questioning could have far-reaching implications for the accused and may shed light on the complexities surrounding the land-for-jobs scandal.
