CM Eknath Shinde Orders Recruitment For 40,000 Posts In Local Bodies Immediately

Mumbai, 11th January 2023: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde today directed to start the recruitment process for 40,000 posts in all the Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats immediately. The Chief Minister also gave instructions to all civic bodies to pay special attention to improving the quality of schools and health services.

A conference of the Chief Executives of all Municipal Corporations and ‘A’ Class Municipalities in Maharashtra was held today at Sahyadri Guest House, Chief Minister Shri. Shinde was speaking. Mumbai City Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, Urban Development Department Additional Chief Secretary Bhushan Gagrani, Principal Secretary Sonia Sethi, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal were present.

A total of 19,83 posts of the state cadre will be recruited through the Directorate and 3,720 in Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ at the Municipal Council-Nagar Panchayat level. The process is being done in 34 districts through the selection committee headed by District Collectors. Also, the recruitment process for 8,490 posts in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has been started and the chief minister directed to complete the entire recruitment by the end of May. He also gave instructions to review the vacant posts in the Municipal Corporations, complete all the service-related matters, and start the recruitment process on a war footing.

The Integrated Development Control and Promotion Rules have been implemented in December 2020. The Chief Minister also gave instructions to use the app-based system ‘BPMS-Online’ and ‘BPMS TP-Client’ for building construction permission.

Shinde also praised the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation and gave instructions to plan programs that should create competition between private and municipal schools. The Chief Minister also spoke about the need for municipalities to take efforts to improve the quality of school nutrition along with education by taking workshops for teachers and training them. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also showed his readiness to provide funds for the construction of water facilities for the regular cleaning of school toilets.

A committee has been formed to find out the exact reasons for the deteriorating financial situation of the Municipal Corporations, especially the ‘D’ Class Municipal Corporations and suggest measures for them. The Chief Minister also gave instructions to pay special attention to property tax and water tax collection by all civic bodies. It has been ordered that the service charge levied by CIDCO in the Panvel Municipal Corporation area should not be levied from 1st November 2022, and the Chief Minister also directed that the service charge should be levied only through the Municipal Corporation.
