Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Released from Tihar Jail After Six Months

New Delhi, 13th September 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday after spending nearly six months behind bars. His release came following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail in a corruption case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) related to the alleged Delhi liquor scam.

In his address to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters, who braved heavy rainfall to welcome him, Kejriwal expressed gratitude, stating, “I first thank God, whose blessings have brought me here, and all the people who came out in such severe weather.” He emphasized his unwavering resolve, saying, “Despite the difficulties I faced, my spirits remain unshaken. They thought that imprisoning me would break my will, but it has only strengthened my resolve.”

Kejriwal vowed to continue his fight against “anti-national forces” that he believes are undermining the country. He was initially arrested by the CBI on June 26 and had contested the Delhi High Court’s ruling upholding his detention.

On July 12, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in a separate money-laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which had detained him on March 21. The Supreme Court’s bail conditions included restrictions on making public statements about the case, visiting his office, and signing official documents without the Lieutenant Governor’s approval.
