Pune: Deputy Commissioner of PCMC on dual roles in Satara Municipal Council
Pimpri Chinchwad, 7th April 2023: Abhijit Bapat, the Deputy Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), has been assigned the additional charge of Chief Executive of Satara Municipal Council.
This move has raised eyebrows, as Bapat’s establishment is in Pimpri and he is now working in Satara. It is rumored that this decision was taken on the insistence of a BJP MP from Satara.
Bapat, who was promoted to Chief Officer ‘Group A’ (S 23) from Chief Officer ‘Group A’ (S20) on June 18, 2021, was appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation by deputation. After being relieved by the district administration authorities of Satara on July 12, 2021, Bapat joined PCMC as Deputy Commissioner. However, he was given the additional charge of Chief Executive of Satara Municipal Council on July 15, 2021, due to administrative reasons.
It is unusual for an officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner to be given the additional charge of CEO of a municipal council. Bapat’s salary is being paid by the Satara Municipal Council, and a no-objection certificate from Pimpri Municipal Corporation is required for this purpose.
While Bapat’s appointment has caused confusion among administrative circles, some speculate that the move was made at the behest of a BJP MP from Satara. Bapat has been posted in Pimpri for the past two and a half years, but he is now working in Satara. The reasons for this unusual appointment have yet to be disclosed.
