Indian Parliament’s Monsoon Session Scheduled From July 20 to August 11

New Delhi, 1st July 2023: According to Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, the Monsoon session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on July 20 and will continue until August 11. Initially, the session may commence in the old Parliament building and later transition to the new building, as stated by Parliamentary sources quoted by news agency PTI. The new building was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28. The monsoon session is expected to consist of approximately 20 sittings and conclude before Independence Day.

During this session, the government intends to introduce a bill aimed at replacing the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance. This ordinance had effectively nullified a Supreme Court judgment granting the city government increased legislative and administrative control over “services” matters. The government will strive for the early passage of this bill.

Additionally, the National Research Foundation Bill, which received clearance from the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, is anticipated to be presented during the session. This proposed foundation will serve as a new funding agency aimed at enhancing the country’s research capabilities in the fields of science and technology.
