Former Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Charged in Attempted Murder Case

West Godavari, 12th July 2024: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and two senior IPS officers are among five individuals charged in a case of attempted murder following a complaint filed by a TDP MLA. The IPS officers involved are former CID Chief PV Sunil Kumar and former Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu.

In his complaint, Undi MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju claimed that he was unlawfully detained by the CID in Hyderabad in 2021. He accused Jagan Mohan Reddy and other officials of orchestrating a criminal conspiracy against him.

Raju, formerly a member of the YSR Congress Party, alleged that he was not presented before a local magistrate after his arrest and that the CID lacked a proper transit warrant. He was allegedly moved to the CID office in Guntur without due process.

On May 14, 2021, Raju alleged he was arrested without following legal procedures, forcibly placed into a police vehicle, and taken to Guntur that same night. He claimed that PV Sunil Kumar, PSR Anjaneyulu, and other officers assaulted him with belts and sticks while depriving him of his heart medication. Raju stated that the officers were aware of his recent bypass heart surgery.

He further alleged that some officers applied pressure to his chest, attempting to kill him that his phone was seized and he was coerced into revealing its password. Raju was subsequently transferred to a government hospital, where he claimed he received inadequate treatment from Dr Prabhavathi, who allegedly issued false medical certificates at the behest of police officials.

Additionally, Raju accused PV Sunil Kumar of threatening to kill him if he spoke out against the then Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The case also includes allegations against Dr Prabhavathi, former superintendent of Guntur Government General Hospital, and retired police officer R Vijay Paul.
