Union Tribal Affairs Minister Visits Isha Yoga Center, Highlights Economic Progress of Tribal Women

Coimbatore, 05th July 2025: Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, lauded the economic transformation of tribal women from Thanikandi village during his visit to the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore on July 4. The Minister noted the role of Isha Foundation in enabling women to become income tax-paying entrepreneurs, describing the development as a significant milestone for tribal communities.

The Minister highlighted the journey of the Chellamariyammann Self-Help Group, which was formed in 2018 with support from Isha Foundation. Beginning with a working capital of ₹200, the group initially set up small shops near the Adiyogi statue, then a growing tourist site. Over time, their businesses expanded substantially, achieving turnovers in crores and marking a shift in the economic status of the participating women.

During his visit, Minister Oram also visited a nearby tribal village to observe ongoing development activities. He interacted with local residents and reviewed initiatives in education, health, and livelihood support.

The Minister toured several facilities at the Isha Yoga Center, including the 112-ft Adiyogi statue, Suryakund water body, Dhyanalinga meditation space, and Linga Bhairavi temple. He also visited Sadhguru Gurukulam Samskriti, a traditional residential school, and Isha Home School, known for its alternative educational approach.

Isha Foundation has been engaged in tribal and rural outreach for several years, offering programs related to healthcare access, education, vocational training, nutrition, and environmental initiatives in surrounding communities.
