Uddhav Thackeray Government Crisis: Shiv Sena Challenges Order of Floor Test in SC, Hearing to be Held at 5 pm today

Mumbai, 29th June 2022: The Shiv Sena has challenged the Governor’s order to conduct a floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday in the Supreme Court. An application has been filed on behalf of Shiv Sena Chief Whip Sunil Prabhu against the order of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. The Supreme Court has fixed the time for the hearing at 5 pm today. Along with this, the court has asked all the parties to hand over a copy of the application by 3 pm.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi will represent the Shiv Sena. He has demanded from the court that there is an urgent need to stay the governor’s decision and that the apex court should intervene in this matter. Opposing the order of floor test, Sanjay Raut said that this decision is unconstitutional and rules are being flouted through it.

Sanjay Raut said, “At present, the case of disqualification of 16 MLAs is pending in the Supreme Court. In such a situation, ordering a floor test before that is wrong and completely unconstitutional.” He said that BJP is getting politics done from the Governor’s House. Meanwhile, the Eknath Shinde faction has also announced to reach Mumbai for the floor test tomorrow. However, before that, there is a talk about all the MLAs staying at the Taj Hotel in Goa today. It is being said that the strategy behind this is that the MLAs should reach at the last moment so that they cannot be broken.

The Governor has written a letter and ordered a special session of the Legislative Assembly to be conducted on June 30 at 11 am for a floor test. In a letter to Assembly Secretary Rajendra Bhagwat, he said that in the emails received from 7 independent MLAs and the letter given by the Leader of Opposition, it has been said that CM Uddhav Thackeray has lost the majority. In such a situation, the floor test seems necessary and for this, the assembly session should be called on June 30. Not only this, in his letter, he said that the process of floor test should be completed by 5 pm on June 30.
