Pune District Collector Unveils Detailed Plan for Lok Sabha Elections

Pune, 17th March 2024: In a press conference on Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar addressed the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, emphasizing the Election Commission’s commitment to preventing the misuse of power, misinformation dissemination, and violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
Today, Suhas Diwase, the District Collector of Pune, conducted a press conference to outline detailed plans for ensuring adherence to the Model Code of Conduct and smooth polling processes in the Pune District. The district comprises four Lok Sabha constituencies: Pune, Baramati, Shirur, and Maval.
Diwase, along with key officers responsible for district administration and law enforcement, including Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Pune) Kavita Dwivedi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner (PMRDA) Deepak Singla, and District Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, shared essential details of the election preparations.
Diwase also mentioned the contingency plan of using ballot papers if the number of candidates exceeds the capacity of electronic voting machines (EVMs), which is set at 384. Enhancing voter turnout is a top priority for the authorities.
Regarding the polling schedule, Diwase stated that elections for the Baramati Constituency will be held on May 7, while those for the Shirur, Maval and Pune Constituencies will take place on May 13. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to maximizing voter participation. A total of 44,000 EVM machines will be deployed across 8,383 polling centres, catering to over 82 lakh eligible voters, including 39 lakh women. Diwase asserted that the administration has undertaken all necessary measures to ensure transparent and peaceful elections.
