New Evidence Of Split In Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge Called Meeting To Discuss Floor Test Strategy, AAP and TMC Missing

New Delhi, 27th July 2022: The issue of suspension of a large number of MPs from Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha has been a hot topic due to recent events in Indian politics. Differences are also visible among the opposition parties. In view of the suspension process, a meeting of opposition parties was called to decide the floor strategy, due to which the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and the Trinamool Congress, the running government in West Bengal, kept a distance.

Sparking point is that 4 members from Lok Sabha and 19 from Rajya Sabha have been suspended. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had called a meeting to prepare the floor strategy in the House. In which DMK, RJD, NCP, CPM, CPI, Shiv Sena, RLD, MDMK, IUML, RSP and NC participated. The TMC and AAP remained missing.

Also, TMC MPs did not participate in the protests organized by Congress and some opposition parties. According to the Indian Express, TMC MPs staged a separate protest by displaying placards and raising slogans, indicating a split in the opposition camp.

Kharge said, ‘Our job is to invite everyone and see who attends. If they have a different agenda, that’s a different matter. My job is to make sure that we all go together and fight unitedly. Not counting how you are raising the issues of the people and how they are working against the opposition parties which is necessary.’

On Tuesday, 19 opposition MPs were suspended for disrupting the proceedings of the House. These MPs were pushing for an urgent discussion on rising prices and hike in Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates. At the same time, on Monday, 4 Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha were suspended for alleged misbehaviours.
