Maharashtra Politics: Eknath Shinde And Himanta Sarma Meet To Discuss Relations Between Maharashtra And Assam

Mumbai, 27th November 2022: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said that approved the request of his counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma for the construction of Assam Bhavan in Navi Mumbai. After a meeting with Sarma in Guwahati, Shinde made the announcement. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut said that Assam Bhavan already exists in Navi Mumbai.

A meeting between Maharashtra CM Shinde and Assam CM Sarma took place on Sunday at the same hotel in Guwahati where Shinde and other Shiv Sena rebel MLAs were trying to topple the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra. A statement issued from Shinde’s office said the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation between the two states in the fields of industry, trade and tourism. Shinde, his ministers and MPs along with their families visited the Kamakhya Devi temple on Saturday and later attended a meeting with Sarma.

The statement said Shinde thanked Sarma for his support during the power struggle in Maharashtra. Shinde also invited Sarma to visit Maharashtra. Shinde accepted Sarma’s request for the construction of the Assam Bhavan in Navi Mumbai, while the Assam government would provide land for setting up the Maharashtra Bhavan in the northeastern state, the statement said. The statement quoted Sarma as saying that when Shinde realized that his party’s (Shiv Sena) path was wrong and wanted to correct it, help was provided.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut said that Assam Bhawan already exists in Navi Mumbai. Every state wants to land in Mumbai. But, Maharashtra does not have a place among other states. His industries are taken away and his land is claimed. Raut said that the Chief Minister of Assam is an ex-Congressman and Shinde is an ex-Shiv Sainik. After changing both factions, he became the Chief Minister. So, the defectors are doing well. He said that the people of Assam live happily and peacefully in Mumbai and other parts of the state. Raut said that Kamakhya Devi is known as the goddess of justice, and they are sure that she will do justice.
