‘No Loss to BJP’: Nainar Nagendran Reacts to K Annamalai’s Exit From Party

Chennai, 5th June 2026: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran has downplayed concerns over former state chief K. Annamalai’s departure from the party, stating that the BJP will not suffer any setback as it is driven by ideology rather than individual leaders. His remarks came shortly after the BJP accepted Annamalai’s resignation from primary membership.

Speaking to reporters, Nagendran said that while leaders may come and go, the BJP’s organisational strength and ideological foundation remain intact. He maintained that the party’s future in Tamil Nadu would not be affected by Annamalai’s decision to leave.

Annamalai, a former IPS officer who emerged as one of the BJP’s most prominent faces in Tamil Nadu, officially resigned from the party on Friday after months of speculation about his political future. The BJP subsequently accepted his resignation, ending weeks of uncertainty over whether he would remain with the party.

According to reports, Annamalai is now preparing to launch a new political movement in Tamil Nadu and has indicated his intention to play an independent role in state politics ahead of future elections. He described the move as the beginning of a new political journey.

The development marks a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, where Annamalai had helped increase the BJP’s visibility through statewide outreach campaigns and an aggressive opposition strategy against the ruling DMK. However, reports of differences over alliance politics and the party’s approach in the state had fuelled speculation about his future for several months.

Despite the high-profile exit, Nagendran expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects and reiterated that the party would continue to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu. He stressed that the BJP remains committed to expanding its organisational base and pursuing its political agenda in the state.

Annamalai’s resignation has triggered widespread political discussion across Tamil Nadu, with observers closely watching his next move and its potential impact on the state’s evolving political equations.
