Pune: Special Court Grants Bail To Rahul Gandhi In Savarkar Defamation Case
Pune, 10th January 2025: A special court in Pune today granted bail to Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Indian National Congress leader, for his controversial statement about Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Rahul Gandhi appeared in court via video conferencing for the hearing.
The case is being heard in the court of Special Judge Amol Shinde, who presides over cases against MPs and MLAs. Rahul Gandhi was given a date to appear today, which he complied with through video conferencing.
The controversy stems from statements Rahul Gandhi made about Savarkar during a speech to NRIs in London. In response, Savarkar’s grandson, Satyaki Savarkar, filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in court.
Advocate Milind Pawar had applied for anticipatory bail on behalf of Rahul Gandhi, which the special court granted. The next hearing in this case is scheduled for 18th February.
