Pune, 25th July 2024:Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case related to the excise policy scam has been extended until August 8. Kejriwal appeared via video conferencing in Rouse Avenue Court as his previous custody period ended. The court granted the CBI’s request for an extension. Kejriwal, who is currently in Tihar Jail, was arrested by the CBI on June 26, following his earlier arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in a related money laundering case. He had received interim bail from the Supreme Court in the money laundering case.
Kejriwal, a prominent figure of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), faces significant legal challenges as the CBI identifies him as a “main conspirator” in the excise policy scam. In addition to Kejriwal, the court also extended the judicial custody of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha till July 31. Both appeared in court via video conferencing alongside Kejriwal.
The judicial proceedings included a scheduled hearing on the seventh supplementary chargesheet filed by the ED against Kejriwal. The developments mark a continuing saga in the legal battles surrounding Kejriwal and his associates, casting a shadow over the political landscape in Delhi.
