Pune: 1,720 EVMs Received For Kasba Peth, Chinchwad By-Elections

Pune, 24th January 2023: Kasba Peth and Chinchwad assembly constituencies by-elections have been announced. Voting will be held on 27th February. Preliminary preparations for this election are going on by the district administration.

The district administration has received 1,720 voting machines (Electronic Voting Machines – EVMs) for voting. The preliminary inspection of these machines has been started.

The Central Election Commission has recently announced the election schedule for the two assembly constituencies that fell vacant due to the death of Kasba Peth MLA Mukta Tilak and Chinchwad MLA Laxman Jagtap. Accordingly, the filling of candidatures will start on 31st January. Voting will be held on 27th February, while votes will be counted on 2nd March. Against this backdrop, the district administration has started preparations for the elections.

Meanwhile, Kasba Peth Assembly Constituency has 270 polling stations, while Chinchwad Assembly Constituency has 510 polling stations. This polling station will have an EVM machine (ballot unit, control unit) and VVPAT machines. There are a total of 780 polling stations in both these constituencies, and a total of 1,720 EVM machines have been received by the district administration. Technical inspection of all these machines is going on in the first phase. In this inspection, the machinery is checked whether or not it is working properly. After finalizing the list of candidates, the District Election Branch informed that a similar check will be conducted with all the political representatives again.
