Political Tension In Rajasthan Continues, No Decision Or Intimation From Congress

Jaipur, 3rd October 2022: What is the final solution to the ruckus that began in Rajasthan regarding Congress President’s election? Will the Chief Minister be changed in Rajasthan, or will Gehlot be able to retain the chair? Questions like these have remained unanswered for the past several days. This decision has been awaited since Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot’s meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi four days ago. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal had also said on Friday that a decision on the Chief Minister would be taken in one to two days. However, till now, no decision or indication has been given by the party.

Ashok Gehlot, who returned after apologizing to Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, once again showed his attitude on Sunday and made it clear in gestures that Sachin Pilot is not accepted as his successor. Gehlot pointed out that most of the MLAs in the state are with him. He said that it should be looked into why there is resentment among the MLAs in the name of the new Chief Minister in the state. He said, “80 to 90 percent of MLAs switch sides when a new chief minister is appointed. They align with the new leader. I don’t even consider it wrong, but it did not happen in Rajasthan,” Gehlot said. Without naming Pilot, he said, “When there was a possibility of the arrival of the new chief minister, what was the reason that the MLAs were badly infuriated by his name, which never happened till today…What were they so afraid of…Was there something going on in his mind, and above all, how did he come to know about it?

Gehlot was considered to be the frontrunner in the race for the post of national president of Congress. Due to this, several MLAs loyal to Gehlot had submitted their resignations to the Speaker in Rajasthan amid speculation about a change of leadership and Pilot being made the new chief minister. However, Gehlot later announced that he would not contest for the post of Congress President. There is speculation that the party’s high command is angry with Gehlot and wants to remove him from the post of CM.

It is being said that the Congress’s high command is in favour of a change in the state. The party leadership is ready to make ‘CM in Waiting’ Sachin Pilot the Chief Minister from 2018. However, the ‘Gehlot’s magic’ is coming in the way of the MLAs. The party leadership knows that most of the MLAs are still in favour of Gehlot, and Gehlot himself is ready to risk everything for the chief minister’s post. Gehlot, who is considered to be the strongest contender for the post of Congress President, has taken himself out of this race, but he is not able to leave Rajasthan’s fascination. Party strategists fear that going against Gehlot’s wishes could put the government in danger in the state. It is being said that the party is trying to find a way out so that both parties can be satisfied.
