Maharashtra Government To Enquire Inter-Faith Marriages

Mumbai, 15th December 2022: Though inter-caste and inter-religious marriages have increased, many duos continue to get married after elopement. However, the Maharashtra Government has now decided to set an inquiry into these situations.

If a girl decides to have an inter-faith marriage, the government will check if the girl is being cheated on, if she is being married against her will, or if it is opposed at home. Opponents are questioning how appropriate this decision of the state government is.

If the girl faces any problem after the inter-faith marriage, the government will help her.

A 13-member committee will be formed under State Women and Child Welfare Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha.

State Women and Child Welfare Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has said that this decision was taken to prevent incidents like the Shraddha Walkar case from occurring again.

Oppositions say the decision of the government is an attack on the basic freedom of the people. Marriage is a personal matter. No one should interfere in it. If the government is taking such a decision, it is not right.

The Committee will check registered and unregistered marriages and maintain contact with the girl in case she faces issues.
