On September 5, the special court of ED extended the custody of Sanjay Raut till September 19. Raut has been in judicial custody for more than a month. Currently, Raut is lodged in Arthur Road Central Jail.
Earlier Sanjay Raut had filed his bail application in the special court He had also demanded an immediate hearing. However, the hearing could not take place.
The Patra Chawl scam was revealed in 2007. The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA) started the scheme of making flats to provide permanent houses to families living in chawls. This work was to be done in Siddharth Nagar of Goregaon.
The work of redevelopment of Patra Chal was given to Guru Ashish Construction Company. 672 houses have been built on 47 acres of land of MHADA. The company had to make three and a half thousand flats.
MHADA’s planned to sell the remaining land after the construction of the flats. However, even after 14 years, the company did not build flats.
It is alleged that Guru Ashish Construction Company cheated and sold the land to the builders without constructing the flat. He made a profit of more than Rs 901 crore.
