Dates For Gujarat Elections To Be Announced Today
Gujarat, 3rd November 2022: The dates for the Gujarat elections will be announced today at noon. The Election Commission will have a press conference at Rang Bhawan Auditorium in Delhi today. With the announcement of the dates, the Model Code of Conduct notification will be issued in the state.
Citing a tradition adopted in 2017, the Election Commission had not announced the Gujarat elections along with the dates for the Himachal Pradesh elections. In Himachal Pradesh, polling will be in a single phase on 12th November. The counting of votes will take place on 8th December.
The Election Commission had indicated that the counting of votes for Gujarat would also take place on 8th December, keeping the date of counting for Himachal Pradesh almost a month after the polling. In 2017 too, elections were announced on different dates in both states, but the counting of votes took place simultaneously on 18th December.
According to the Election Commission website, assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh were held simultaneously in 1998, 2007, and 2012. The term of the 182-member Gujarat Legislative Assembly is ending on 18th February 2023.
