Ajit Pawar calls for 50-year vision in development plans for Pune
Pune, 9th April 2023: Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar has stressed the need for long-term planning by rulers to ensure sustainable development in Pune.
Speaking at the launch of MBM Orbit, Nandanvan Colina, a commercial complex and housing project by Saisankalp Developers in Katraj, Pawar emphasized the importance of considering the next 50 years while making plans.
While commending the convenience and quality of the project, Pawar also stressed the importance of waste disposal in large constructions and the need for everyone, including politicians, to take moral responsibility and care for the environment. He called on the government to provide more public transport services to encourage their use and discourage the rise of illegal Koyta gangs who harm the environment and exploit others.
Pawar also highlighted the need for construction to be carried out in compliance with regulations and the importance of leaving enough space for emergency services. He cited the example of Dhankawadi area where buildings are so close together that one can shake hands from one window to another.
Pawar expressed concern over the increasing problems faced by Pune, despite its progress in education, information technology, and the auto sector. He called on elected officials to work towards long-term sustainable development that will benefit the region for years to come.
The commercial complex and housing project, developed by three Marathi partners, was hailed by Pawar as a positive contribution to the development of South Pune. However, he emphasized that development should not come at the cost of the environment or public health and safety.
The launch was attended by several local officials and dignitaries, including the State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar and District Bank President Digambar Durgade.
