Chhindwara: Junnardeo Railway Station Redeveloped Under Rs 25.40 Crore Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
Nagpur/Chhindwara, 14th July 2026: Junnardeo Railway Station in Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has been redeveloped into a modern passenger facility under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at a sanctioned cost of ₹25.40 crore. The upgraded station is set to be dedicated to the nation shortly as part of the nationwide station redevelopment programme.
The redevelopment project focuses on improving passenger amenities, accessibility, station infrastructure and multimodal connectivity while incorporating architectural elements that reflect the local culture and heritage.
Junnardeo is an NSG-5 category railway station with three platforms, handling 10 trains daily—five in the Up direction and five in the Down direction. The station currently records an average daily footfall of 2,867 passengers, nearly three times higher than the 970 daily passengers recorded in 2015-16, highlighting the growing demand for improved infrastructure.
Originally constructed in 1936 on the Nagpur–Balaghat railway line, Junnardeo Railway Station serves the Jamai Tehsil of Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district. It provides rail access to tourist destinations including Tamia Hills, Patalkot Valley, Pahali Payari, Karanji Waterfall and Hinglaj Mata Temple, while also serving the coal mining region of the Kanhan Area of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), which includes Asia’s largest coal wash plant and around 15 coal mines.
The redevelopment includes the construction of a 12-metre-wide and 121-metre-long Foot Over Bridge equipped with four lifts and four ramps, along with two additional lifts on the existing foot over bridge to improve platform connectivity.
Other major works include a new booking office-cum-waiting hall, an air-conditioned reserved waiting room, renovation of the existing station building, expanded platform shelters, development of a 500-metre circulating road, creation of a second station entrance with a dedicated circulating area, landscaping, sculptures, covered parking for 90 two-wheelers and 15 four-wheelers, renovation and construction of toilet blocks, and a 300-metre compound wall.
The station has also been designed with 100 per cent Divyangjan-friendly facilities, modern illuminated signage, improved sanitation facilities and upgraded waiting areas to enhance passenger convenience.
The main station entrance connects Junnardeo with Chhindwara through the Junnardeo–Parasia–Chhindwara Road, while the newly developed second entrance provides direct access to the Tamia Bypass Road, improving regional connectivity.
The redevelopment of Junnardeo Railway Station is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which railway stations across the country are being upgraded with modern infrastructure and enhanced passenger facilities.
