Tikekarwadi Station Gets High-Tech Rail Upgrade in Solapur Division
Solapur, 11th June 2026: The Solapur Division of Central Railway has completed a major yard infrastructure upgradation project at Tikekarwadi station, introducing new signalling systems, extended operational lines and upgraded freight-handling facilities aimed at improving train operations and capacity.
The works were carried out during recently concluded traffic blocks and included extensive modifications to the station yard layout, signalling infrastructure and track arrangements.
A key component of the project was the commissioning of an Electronic Interlocking system, replacing the existing Panel Interlocking arrangement. The upgraded signalling system is designed to manage train movements through automated route-setting and safety mechanisms.
The station’s operational lines have also been extended to accommodate longer passenger and freight trains. Railway officials said the enhancement is expected to increase line capacity and improve operational flexibility for train handling.
The yard layout was redesigned to facilitate quicker reception and dispatch of trains. Additional shunting signals and upgraded signalling infrastructure have been installed to streamline train movements within the station limits.
Track infrastructure at the station has undergone significant improvements, including the installation of modern high-capacity switches and upgraded track components. The changes are intended to support smoother train operations and improve operational reliability.
The project also included the extension and strengthening of a dedicated ballast and freight-handling siding. The upgraded siding is expected to improve the movement and handling of freight traffic and railway materials in the region.
To meet current operational requirements and future traffic growth, track spacing and other station infrastructure elements were modified in accordance with updated railway standards.
The upgradation work involved the use of specialised railway machinery and equipment, including UNIMAT track tamping machines, rail cranes, hydraulic track jacks, rail cutting and drilling machines, tower wagons and overhead equipment maintenance tools.
According to railway officials, more than 368 personnel from various departments, including Operating, Engineering, Signalling and Telecommunication, Electrical Traction and Distribution, and Electrical departments, participated in the execution of the project during the block period.
The modernisation work has now been completed and the upgraded infrastructure has been brought into operation at Tikekarwadi station.
