Goods Train Derailment Near Delhi Disrupts Rail Traffic, Dozens of Trains Cancelled, Diverted and Regulated
New Delhi, 21st July 2026: Rail services on the Ghaziabad–New Delhi section of Northern Railway were disrupted on Tuesday after six loaded wagons of a goods train derailed in the Delhi Division, leading to the cancellation, diversion, regulation and short termination of several passenger and express trains.
According to Northern Railway, the derailment affected train operations on one of the busiest rail corridors connecting the national capital. Multiple bulletins were issued during the day as train operations were revised based on the restoration work.
Among the major long-distance trains diverted were 12301 Howrah–New Delhi Rajdhani Express, 12229 Lucknow Mail, 12417 Prayagraj Express, 12429 Lucknow–New Delhi AC Superfast Express, 12559 Banaras–New Delhi Shiv Ganga Superfast Express, 12393 Sampoorna Kranti Express, 22823 Bhubaneswar–New Delhi Rajdhani Express, and 12371 Howrah–Bikaner Superfast Express.
Several trains were diverted via Shahibabad–Delhi Shahdara–Delhi, while others were rerouted through Tundla–Agra Cantt–Palwal to avoid the affected section.
The 12581 Banaras–New Delhi Superfast Express was diverted via Shahibabad, Delhi Shahdara, Delhi and New Delhi, while the 12427 Rewa–Anand Vihar Express, 12367 Bhagalpur–Anand Vihar Vikramshila Express, 12557 Muzaffarpur–Anand Vihar Sapt Kranti Express, and 22419 Ghazipur City–Anand Vihar Suhaildev Express were regulated en route over alternative sections.
Suburban services also witnessed disruption. Ghaziabad–New Delhi EMU services (64449, 64031 and 64437) were cancelled, while 64105 Aligarh–New Delhi EMU was initially short-terminated at Ghaziabad before being diverted via Shahibabad and Delhi Shahdara to New Delhi in a later operational update.
Northern Railway also revised the operation of 64581 Hapur–Delhi MEMU, extending its run up to New Delhi. After arrival, the rake will be used to operate train 64533.
The 150303 Intercity Express was first diverted and short-terminated at Delhi. In a subsequent update, Northern Railway announced that the train scheduled for July 21 would remain cancelled after completing its inbound journey, and its rake would be used to operate train 15307.
Other trains, including 12257 SRC–Anand Vihar Superfast Express, 12435 Jaynagar–Anand Vihar Garib Rath Express, 15273 Raxaul–Anand Vihar Satyagraha Express, 12225 Kaifiyat Express, 14342 Mussoorie Express, 64103 Aligarh–Delhi EMU, 64560 Saharanpur–Delhi MEMU, and 64111 Khurja–Shakurbasti EMU, continued to operate on their scheduled routes.
Northern Railway said train operations are being regulated and revised based on restoration work at the derailment site. Passengers have been advised to check the latest running status of their trains before commencing their journey.
