Baramati Election Drama: Sharad Pawar’s Bag Checked, Pratibha Pawar Allegedly Denied Entry to Textile Park

Baramati, 18th November 2024: As Baramati enters the final stretch of its heated election campaign, incidents involving senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar and his family have added fuel to an already charged political atmosphere. Sharad Pawar’s bag was inspected by election officials at the Baramati helipad, while his wife, Pratibha Pawar, and granddaughter, Revati Sule, were reportedly denied entry to the Baramati Textile Park during a campaign visit.

The Textile Park, chaired by Sunetra Pawar, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, became the center of controversy when Pratibha Pawar and Revati Sule were stopped at the gate for nearly 30 minutes. The two had arrived to campaign for Yugendra Pawar, the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) candidate. Security guards reportedly cited instructions from the park’s CEO as the reason for the delay.

Footage of the incident, shared by MP Supriya Sule’s office, has sparked debate in political circles. In a statement, the park’s manager, Anil Wagh, clarified that no prior notice of Pratibha Pawar’s visit had been provided. He added that while rallies were not permitted inside the premises, arrangements were eventually made to allow her car entry after the situation was clarified.

Adding to the tension, earlier in the day, Sharad Pawar’s bag was checked by election officials at the Baramati helipad before he departed for a campaign rally in Solapur. These events have further amplified political drama in the constituency.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is seen as a key figure in the rival NCP faction, recently stated that he would address Pratibha Pawar’s campaign efforts for her grandson after the elections. Sunday’s incidents, however, have deepened the divide between the two factions, intensifying political discourse in Baramati.

With just days to go before the polls, these developments have added another layer of intrigue to the high-stakes contest in Baramati.
