9 New Government Medical Colleges To Be Established In Maharashtra
Mumbai, 30th June 2023: Maharashtra’s healthcare system is set for a significant boost as the state cabinet has given the green light to establish nine new government medical colleges in various districts. With an estimated cost of INR 4,365.72 crores, this ambitious project aims to bridge the healthcare gap and strengthen medical infrastructure.
While 24 districts in Maharashtra already have government medical colleges, districts like Palghar, Thane (Ambernath), Jalna, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim, Wardha, Bhandara, and Gadchiroli have been lacking these essential facilities.
The new medical colleges in these nine districts will accommodate 100 students each, thereby expanding healthcare opportunities. Moreover, associated hospitals with a combined capacity of 430 beds will be established alongside these medical colleges.
In a bid to promote excellence in education, the cabinet has also granted approval for the establishment of modern Centers of Excellence in government and private engineering and pharmaceutical colleges throughout the state. These Centers of Excellence will be developed at the government engineering and research college in Pune district and at a government institution in Kolhapur.
The state cabinet’s approval has paved the way for implementing the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Scheme, also known as the National Urban Livelihoods Mission, in 153 municipal local self-governance institutions across Maharashtra. This empowering scheme will be rolled out in districts such as Kolhapur, Pune, Raigad, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg, Solapur, Thane, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal, fostering socio-economic development in these regions.
