Verbal Sparring Between Thackeray and Fadnavis Escalates Amid Accusations of Mental Health

Mumbai, 11th February 2024: The recent exchange of verbal attacks between Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena’s leader, and Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister, has heightened tensions in Maharashtra’s political landscape. The dispute took a contentious turn as both leaders questioned each other’s mental well-being, adding a new dimension to their ongoing rivalry.

During a press conference at his residence, Thackeray branded Fadnavis as a “psychopathic home minister,” criticizing him for his alleged ruthlessness and lack of empathy. In response, Fadnavis commented on Thackeray’s mental state, suggesting that he needed to “get well soon” due to unspecified issues affecting his mental health.

The verbal confrontation arose from the tragic murder-suicide incident during a Facebook Live session, allegedly involving a Shiv Sena leader and Mauris Noronha. Thackeray accused Fadnavis of negligence in handling the situation, particularly regarding his handling of blame attribution.

Thackeray further questioned Fadnavis’s leadership, reminding him of his responsibility towards all individuals, including the victim. He reiterated demands from his party allies for the dismissal of the state government and the calling of new elections.

The tension escalated when a BJP Mumbai unit secretary suggested placing Thackeray under preventive custody under the Mental Healthcare Act until he is deemed mentally fit. Thackeray retaliated by questioning Fadnavis’s allegiance to the central government and criticizing the BJP’s approach towards addressing criminal activities.

The exchange of accusations regarding mental health and leadership capabilities underscores the intense political rivalry between the Shiv Sena and the BJP in Maharashtra.
