Union Minister Jitendra Singh Launches Vaibhav Fellowship For Indians Living Abroad
New Delhi, 1st March 2023: On Tuesday (February 28), Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh launched the Vaibhav Fellowship program for the international Indian diaspora.
The fellowship was launched on the occasion of National Science Day.
According to PIB, by facilitating academic and research collaborations between Indian Institutions and the best institutions in the world through faculty and researcher mobility from overseas institutions to India, the Vaibhav Fellowship seeks to enhance the research ecosystem of India’s Higher Educational Institutions.
To avail of the fellowship, the applicant must be an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), a Person of Indian Origin (PIO), or a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) who has earned a Ph.D., M.D., or M.S. from an accredited university.
The applicant must be a researcher working for an overseas academic, industrial, or research organization with a track record of research and development. They must have the plan to work for a research institution or academic institution in India for a minimum of one month and a maximum of two months per year.
Singh said, “We were ranked 81st out of 130 nations in the Global Innovation Index till 2015, but by 2022 we had climbed to the 40th spot. India is currently among the top three countries in the world in terms of the number of PhDs and the start-up environment.”
