Tamil Nadu – Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi to join cabinet

Chennai, 13th December 2022: Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, will be inducted to the state’s cabinet on Wednesday, December 14th.
The portfolio to be allocated is not yet known but speculations are that he might be given Youth Welfare and Sports Development besides special programme implementation or rural development.

Udhayanidhi has been the youth wing secretary of the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) since 2019. He represents the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency in the Assembly.

An official release from the Raj Bhavan said, “The Chief Minister has recommended to the Governor to induct Udhayanidhi Stalin, MLA from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency in the Council of Ministers. The Governor has approved the recommendation. The swearing-in-ceremony will be held on December 14 at 9.30 am at Durbar Hall.”

Unlike Stalin who had to work for the party under his father, Muthuvel Karunanidhi for decades before getting a ministerial portfolio, 45-year-old Udhayanidhi has it easier. He is being projected as the apparent heir to the party and government. As he assumes office, the DMK is being criticised for ‘dynastic politics.’

Udhayanidhi is also a successful actor and producer in Tamil cinema. Kalaga Thalaivan is his latest movie as an actor. The movies he has produced include Ponniyin Selvan I.
