Rs 34.71 Crore Freight Revenue Recorded as Solapur Division Sees Surge in POL Loading at IOCL Pakni Siding in 2025

Solapur, 04th January 2025: The Solapur Division of Central Railway reported significant growth in freight operations during the calendar year 2025, with petroleum products loading at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Pakni siding in Solapur district generating freight revenue of ₹34.71 crore.

According to official data, a total of 243 rakes of Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) were loaded from the Pakni siding between January and December 2025. The POL loading operation at the siding commenced on 28 January 2025.

The petroleum rakes loaded from Pakni were dispatched to multiple destinations across different states. Major destinations included Miraj in Maharashtra; Hirenanduru in Kalaburagi district and Hubballi in Karnataka; and Secunderabad in Telangana.

The IOCL Pakni siding handles various petroleum products, including High Speed Diesel (HSD), Motor Spirit (MS), Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO), ethanol and biodiesel. These products cater to both conventional fuel requirements and alternative fuel distribution through rail transportation.

Pakni siding has acquired strategic importance in IOCL’s logistics network. It is the first IOCL rake-loading facility in Maharashtra, the ninth exclusive marketing rake-loading location of IOCL in India, and the 18th location overall, including refineries, across the country.

The siding was originally notified in 1996 and earlier handled limited inward petroleum traffic. With the start of outward POL loading operations in 2025, the scale of petroleum traffic handled at the siding has increased substantially.

Petroleum products are transported to the Pakni depot through a 747-kilometre dedicated pipeline from the Koyali refinery in Vadodara. From Pakni, the products are distributed to depots and consumption centres through railway rakes.

The freight operations at IOCL Pakni siding are part of coordinated logistics between Indian Railways and Indian Oil Corporation Limited during the year 2025.
