Rajasthan: Speculations Regarding Congress’ New President Continue As Tension Arises Between Gandhi Family And Gehlot Camp

Jaipur, 26th September 2022: The Congress President will be elected soon. Till now, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is being considered a strong contender for this post. This is the reason why Sonia Gandhi sent two senior party leaders from Delhi to Jaipur and asked them to consider a new name for the next Chief Minister of Rajasthan after Gehlot. It is believed that Sachin Pilot is the first choice of the high command, which has been fiercely opposed by the MLAs of the Gehlot camp. He also announced his resignation. The stand of Gehlot and the MLAs of his camp has taken the party by surprise. This stance has spoiled the equations of the Congress President’s election as well.

After seeing the rebellious attitude of the MLAs of Ashok Gehlot camp in Rajasthan, speculations about the Congress President election have reemerged. If the high command is angry with this attitude, then Ashok Gehlot’s problems may increase in the presidential election. Though votes will be cast for the Congress President’s election, one thing is certain – the victory will be tied to the one who will get the support of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

Shashi Tharoor has completed his preparations for the post of Congress President. He can file a nomination soon. Till yesterday, it was believed that Ashok Gehlot had the support of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi for the post of Congress President. In such a situation, his path seemed quite easy. However, given the latest political situation in Rajasthan, there is every possibility of changing the equation. If the Congress high command takes a stand against Gehlot’s rebellious attitude and no other candidate is fielded, Shashi Tharoor may be considered. He had recently met Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of his decision to contest the elections.

Shashi Tharoor is considered to be a member of the rebel group of Congress (G-23), which was once led by Ghulam Nabi Azad. In such a situation, it is highly unlikely that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi will extend their support to Shashi Tharoor for the post of President. In such a situation, the high command can field any other confidant in the electoral fray. The chances of wild card entry of leaders like Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, and Mallikarjun Kharge may increase.
